Free-writing is the ticket when you don’t know what to write or if your feeling stumped, blocked or rusty about what to say. I’m doing it right now because I’ve been on-the-road with a full schedule, have not been blogging for a while, and had no idea what to write about.
I remember a few years ago, I would open my blog screen before I knew what I was going to write about. It would be on a Monday night since I was trying to stay with a weekly publication schedule (I’ve slipped a bit, but not tonight!!). Amazingly, an idea would float up for what to write about. I’d write that and, then, get great feedback from you all—like you thought I knew what I was doing! Fun!
Woody Allen, you know one of those old guys on Mount Rushmore (LOL!), says, “80% of success is just showing up!” That’s what I’m doing now, so I too must be a raging success!
If you are glad I finally showed up, “reply” and let me feel the love. I’m a third child and will delight in your affirmation!
If you’d like to learn more about free-writing here are the steps I teach in my writing classes across the country (2017 States: AK, AL, HI, OH, NV, & CA!):
1.Write without stopping.
2.Write as quickly as you can.
3.Give your Inner Editor (IE) a time out. (your IE is the voice that will try to correct your spelling and grammar. Don’t listen!)
4.Let your Inner Artist (IA) play! (Your IA has no clue about rules and is just into right brain, kindergartner fun and creativity. Turn it loose! Play!)
6.One minute (Set your phone timer and try it now. You will have fun and be amazed!).
“Reply” and let me know how it went! Please send me your free-writing sample.
Final word: Free-writing worked for me tonight! I had fun and got it done! You can too!
“Argh, me hearty!”
