“Think outside the box!” But what about the box?

In the Team Building Puzzle Game the class is divided up into small groups of four to five participants. Every group gets an identical puzzle. After hearing, “Go!” the first team to complete the puzzle wins.

Some teams try to put their jigsaw puzzle without looking at the picture on the box. Even though no rule against looking was stated!

Other teams set up the box with the puzzle picture right in front of them. Even though no one told them to look!

Which team would you prefer to be on?

In real life when, how, or why do we forget, or refuse to look at “the box” and its “big picture”?

Why do we make things harder than they need to be?

When might we not want to use the picture?
