“Yes, that’s it,” and  “Exactly,” and “You got it,” are the responses you hear when you slow down to summarize what someone is sharing with you.

Then you may hear their highlight, “I’m happy that you accurately repeated back a brief summary of each main item I shared. It lets me know you’re listening.”

Sharing what you heard and asking if you got it is a great way to be sure you did truly get it. And, if you miss something, the person can help you hear it again until you fully grasp their message and meaning.

It seems that most people relax and refresh when they believe they are truly being heard. Plus it’s a blast to be told you really listened well.
