Contentment in Greek

Contentment can mean, having everything you need within yourself.

The ancient Greek word “autarkes” translates into English as “content.”  “Autarkes” is a compound word from “autos” = self, and “arkeo” = to suffice, so it essentially means self-sufficient—in a good sense.

This self-sufficiency is not is not self-centered, arrogant, prideful, isolated, or non-relational. Rather, it simply has enough and knows it.

It is a contented self-sufficiency that is, by implication, ready, willing and able to contribute and invest in others.
