AssertivenessAre you kind? Or clear? Or both?

The kind person may be unclear for fear of hurting feelings and creating discomfort.  This is passivity.

The clear person may be unkind for fear of not getting their opinion spoken out. This is aggression.

The kiddingly kind one who slips their truth-barb in by way of a joke, snide remark, or sarcasm wants to appear kind and gain clarity but ends up being cruel and confusing. This is passive-aggressive behavior.

The kind and clear person is both courageous and concerned.  They are assertive.  Their yes is yes, and their no is no, clearly and kindly.

P.S. The word, “kind” may derive from “kin,” as in “next of kin,” a good motivator to clear things up…kindly.
