Some people are addicted to substances—legal and illegal. The word addict usually brings up the idea of substance abuse.

Other people may not have a substance or chemical addiction, but they have something quite similar called dependency. Dependencies can be described as strong connections, obsessions, compulsions, and/or addictions to behaviors, things, beliefs, or people—legal and illegal.

Most substance abuse programs like Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous have ancillary organizations (e.g., Al-Anon, Nar-Anon) for the recovery of those who are co-dependent to alcoholics and other substance addicts.

Today’s video looks at four different dependencies. This may help us understand a bit about our own life’s journey, how we interact with others, and how they interact with us. They are:

  1. Dependency
  2. Independence
  3. Codependence
  4. Interdependency

We don’t need maps once we arrive at our destination; however, maps are wonderful when we are lost, or feel lost. They can help us regain our perspective.

When we’re in relationships with others we rarely experience arrival. It’s good to have a map or two within reach for the journey

Please enjoy and share this map with other sojourners.  Also, please share your thoughts in the comments section below.
