I get laughs whenever I say, “As the great philosopher, Woody Allen, says, ‘Eighty percent of success is just showing up.'”

The supposed absurdity makes the truth all the more poignant.

How many times have you shown up for a meeting or event you were stressing about only to find that it went just great?

I use Woody’s maxim quite often and with good results.

In my short lifetime I’ve been aware of people not showing up who could have, and with great positive effect.  And I wonder why they bailed?  Then there’s no chance of anything great happening.

It seems to me that once we show up we leave room for great and surprising things to occur.
